Notes: Titus 1:1

Commentary

Paul, a bond-servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the faith of those chosen of God and the knowledge of the truth which is according to godliness, (Titus 1:1)

Paul – Jew (Acts 21:39), Roman (Acts 22:26), learned man (Acts 22:3) – begins his letter by declaring his relationship to the Father and his position in the Son, Jesus Christ.

To the Father, Paul is a bond-servant. This is not a part time job, or a passing fad, but an eternal commitment of obedience.

He serves the Father by being an apostle of the Son. Paul is the herald delivering the gospel message.

He has been tasked with delivering a message of faith. But his is not a message for all. His message is for those chosen of God (Ephesians 1:4).

His message is to declare the Truth of the Word. The Word through whom sanctification, or godliness alone comes.
