Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, (Titus 2:3)
Older women are to be reverent, a picture of holiness. It is difficult for me to reprimand and correct my students regarding dress, when there are older women in the congregation dressed as if they are still in middle school. There is a point at which the “dumb blond” facade will no longer pass as acceptable behavior, and a woman is to be responsible for her behavior and appearance.
“Honey, let me share with you what I heard…” is a common phrase heard throughout Southern churches. We don’t call it gossip, but “sharing” since gossip is sin. Women are to be in control of their tongues. Gossip is an unsubstantiated accusation against a person.
They are to be in control at all times, not given to excessive drinking.
These older women are to be teaching good things. They are to be a public example to and private instructors of younger women.
