in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified, (Titus 2:7)
Notice the personal application of these instructions. They are for Titus, as a young man, to follow as well. Preaching alone is not a minister’s witness. Everything he does (in all things) is to be an example of holiness, of Christ likeness. Does your walk match your talk?
Again, Paul reiterates the admonishment to keep the doctrine pure, and sound. Not only that, but the delivery of sound doctrine needs to be done in a dignified manner. The Word of God is not to be given out lightly, or foolishly, or with frivolity.
Does that mean that Christians are to be somber old goats all the time? Heaven forbid. But can the world tell the difference between your passion for doctrine and your passion for politics? Can they see that you love Jesus SO much more than football? When you talk about the things of heaven, are you serious about them or is there a bit of jocularity in your speech?
