sound in speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us. (Titus 2:8)
When preaching and teaching, these young men, whom Paul assumes are spreading the gospel, are to speak in such a way that there can be no question regarding their beliefs and doctrines. Too many modern preachers bring in science and philosophy, and thus muddy the gospel message with the things of the world. Preach Christ and Him crucified (1 Cor 2:2)
Don’t speak over your listeners. You don’t have to use big seminary words to impress the hearers. But don’t remove big words that the Bible uses. Justification, sanctification, atonement are words used in scripture, and should be used when delivering the gospel message.
Why adhere strictly to the gospel message? So that any who desire to protest your preaching are not arguing with the preacher, but with God himself, who delivered the Gospel message that is preached. By arguing or opposing God, the opponent will be put to shame.
