Remind them to be subject to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good deed, (Titus 3:1)
Paul tells Titus to remind the believers of a number of things. It can be inferred that the believers had forgotten something they had once known.
Believers are to be subject to the earthly rulers that God places over them. Paul mentions both high and low earthly authorities. We are to be subject to not only the kings but to the local officials as well.
The “good deed” mentioned here is different than the “good deed” mentioned earlier (Titus 2:14). Here the word good means “beneficial” as opposed to “morally correct”. Not all earthly laws originate from a “moral correctness” but many are beneficial to the society as a whole.
The states do not allow five year olds to operate a motor vehicle on the highways. There is no moral concern here but purely a benefit to society as a whole. Believers are to obey all laws that do not interfere with their relationship with God.
Not all issues are moral in nature. Too often Christians get caught up in issues and agendas that are merely civil and not morally relevant.
