The Heavens Declare…

“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handy work. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.” PSALM 19:1-3

Anna and I had a great time this evening.   We picked up a rather cheap telescope to watch the lunar eclipse.  If I remember correctly, we have seen 3 in the last year.  And now it will be 2010 before we see another one. Some things in life are time sensitive and worth putting everything else aside to experience them.

We got the scope setup right around 8:45pm as the earths shadow began to cross over the face of the moon.  Since we hadn’t have time to align the spotting scope with the main base, it took some doing to get the first image into the viewfinder.

We broke out the Canon Rebel and put it on a tripod with a remote trigger and  proceeded to snap a few pictures.

Earth's Two Moons

Well, were we surprised to see a second planetary body in the images.  Hrm, guess we forgot to remove the neutral filter we use to reduce glare during daytime sports shooting.

With the light reflected by the moon minimized during the eclipse, we had a great opportunity to view Saturn.  Unfortunately the cheap little telescope we picked up wouldn’t take the T-Mount adapter we have used in the past to mate the camera to it, so no pictures.  But Saturn can be seen as the 8 o’clock light in the following photo.
