Notes: Titus Review

Yesterday was the last day for Titus. After nearly two full months of daily writing, the break for the remainder of the week will be welcomed. Next week, we will begin working through the pastoral Epistles to the young man Timothy.

But a quick review of the book of Titus. Paul has a serious emphasis on sound doctrine. If there are questions regarding the behavior of folks in the church, he reminds them to look to the doctrine. When it comes to salvation, again, he calls on them to remember doctrine. Is it possible that the modern church is dealing with so many issues because it doesn’t hold to sound doctrine?

Is it possible that the church is ineffective because its message is not sound and sounds no different than the trite philosophy of the world?

Is it possible that the church is floundering in poor doctrine because it has not remained faithful to the word that it is to deliver?

Is it possible that the church is full of contentious folks and false teaching because it has refused to cut off those that preach falsehoods within its doors?

If this is a letter on how to run a church, then why do so many churches fail to follow the guidelines set forth in the letter?

Why do we have people in positions of leadership who don’t even meet the expectations of the average believer?
