nor to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which give rise to mere speculation rather than furthering the administration of God which is by faith. (1 Timothy 1:4)
For myths – see notes – Titus 1:14
For genealogies – see notes – Titus 3:9
When we try to see God and His ways through the prism of human intellect and philosophy, we end up with hypothesis rather than fact. Instead of reading God’s word and understanding who God really is, we create a god of our own imagination. This not only runs counter to God’s desired work, but actively interferes.
As teachers of the Word we are to engage in conversation based upon fact and not conjecture. As believers, we are to operate in an environment of Truth, not doubt.
The modern Emergent trend seems more rooted in questioning than in the delivery of answers. To them, all is to be questioned. Question the doctrine. Question the practices. Instead of leading the lost to the Truth, they are turning a generation into skeptics.
