Notes: 1 Timothy 1:5

But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.  (1 Timothy 1:5)

We find here the Greek word ???, translated but in English.  This is a conjunction used to indicate a contrary.

The certain men teaching strange doctrines, and dealing in myths and genealogies may have a purpose to disrupt the administration of God and causing speculation, BUT…

..our instruction is to have an end result of furthering God’s kingdom by encouraging brotherly love.  Brotherly love cannot exist in an environment lacking in pureness of heart, evil conscience or insincere faith.

Pureness of Heart

• Brotherly love cannot exist between two persons of impure heart.
• Brotherly love cannot exist between one person of pure heart and one person of impure heart.
• Brotherly love can ONLY exist between two persons of pure heart

Good Conscience

• Brotherly love cannot exist between two persons of evil conscience.
• Brotherly love cannot exist between one person of good conscience and one person of evil conscience.
• Brotherly love can ONLY exist between two persons of good conscience.

Sincere Faith

• Brotherly love cannot exist between two persons of insincere faith.
• Brotherly love cannot exist between one person of sincere faith and one person of insincere faith.
• Brotherly love can ONLY exist between two persons of sincere faith.

When strange doctrine enters a church, the end result is ALWAYS the breaking of fellowship.  It doesn’t matter who stays and who goes, there is a loss of brotherly love.
