For some men, straying from these things, have turned aside to fruitless discussion, (1 Timothy 1:6)
For a time, these men may have appeared to be on the straight and narrow way. If they hadn’t, would they have been accepted into the churches?
But now they had strayed towards strange doctrine, strayed toward judaizing, strayed towards fables and myths.
They had strayed away from a pure heart, strayed away from a good conscience, and away from a sincere faith.
It would be right to ask if they had ever actually had these things, or if they just had an appearance of righteousness (Matthew 23:25-28).
It is important to note that not all discussion are wrong in the apostle’s mind. But the value of the discussion comes from what is being discussed. Not all discussion is good, yet not all discussion is bad.
