Notes: 1 Timothy 1:15

It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all.  (1 Timothy 1:15)

Paul, having admitted and expounded upon his fallen state, and the crimes he had committed, then having expressed his appreciation and acknowledgement of God’s grace in his life, he adds a bit of a side note, or in Barnes words "a parenthesis".

PAul says, the following statement is true, or a "faithful word" (Πιστο?ς ο? λο?γος).  And, because it is true, it is worthy, deserving, of complete acceptance.  There should be no doubt in the readers mind regarding this doctrine.

Christ, the Messiah, came into this world, for the purpose of saving sinners.  He did not come to get Republicans elected (or Democrats for that matter either).  He did not come to stop global warming.  He did not come to have a "conversation" with mankind.  Jesus came into this world to SAVE SINNERS.
