Notes: 1 Timothy 1:18

This command I entrust to you, Timothy, my son, in accordance with the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you fight the good fight,  (1 Timothy 1:18)

What command is Paul speaking of here?  We have to roll back to verse 8 (1 Timothy 1:8) to find the answer…use the Law properly.

Misapplication, or improper use, of the the law always results in a lower view of God and His grace.  If we over-emphasize the law, by forcing man to adhere to every aspect of the law, we ignore God’s grace.  If we under-emphasize the law, we devalue God’s grace.

We don’t know who prophesied over Timothy.  What we do know was that it happened.  The prophecies seem to be in regards to Timothy entering the ministry.

Timothy is exhorted to remember the prophecies, to remember the God had shown others His intent to use Timothy.  Timothy is to use the law properly, as it would help him in the spiritual battles he was to face.
