Notes: 1 Timothy 2:4

Commentary

who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.  (1 Timothy 2:4)

Lest an argument ensue over this verse (between those of the house of Calvin and the house of Arminius), I will withhold my thoughts on God’s will, for now.

Those that are saved are granted a knowledge of Truth.  The inverse would be that the unsaved are NOT granted a knowledge of Truth.  Salvation begats an awakening of not only the soul, but also of the mind. True intellectual freedom can only occur outside the confines of a fallen nature.

But then at the same time, salvation comes from hearing the truth. (Romans 10)  This seems to be a circle of thought.  The apparent problem occurs because we are attempting to understand a divine process with a carnal mind.
