New Orleans Mission Trip 2008: Day 5

Blog

We had anticipated a short day today.  The yard at our house was nearly finished and the mudding inside was nearly finished.

Our homeowner was planning on cooking some lunch for us.

We arrived to find that the mud from Monday and Tuesday had dried and was ready for sanding.  The boys went to town sanding and were soon ready to float a second layer of mud in addition to doing the corners.

Outside the garbage men came and we helped load hundreds of pounds of junk and trash into the truck.

Around 1:30pm or so, lunch was ready.  Eugene Davis, the homeowner, ran back to get his wife from work, so that she could enjoy the meal with us.  Folks, I am telling you, I had the best BBQ chicken and red beans ‘n rice I’ve ever had in my life.  The students didn’t work on the home expecting anything in return.

The students had written bible verses on the floors and walls.  Ms Davis was crying all over her beautiful self with joy, knowing that these young folks not only loved she and her husband, but loved her boys in college as well.

We had a 45 minute prayer meeting with them, just praising God for His faithfullness and thanking Him for allowing this fellowship, a fellowship that transcends space, race, time, culture, a bond that could only occur in Christ.

Those of us on teams 2 and 6 ask that you keep the Davis family in your prayers.  They are a light in a very dark place.
