A few weeks ago, a friend of mine, Wade Wheeler, very nearly lost his Grandson to a very common household item. The following is part of an email that was sent out by a family friend concerning the event. I thought it warranted publication due to the importance of the warning it holds:
Recently we have had a near tragedy within my group of friends. A very dear friend of my had to rush her son who is 17 months old to the Fire Department due to ingesting a "Liquid Candle". After he ingested it he tried to cough it back up then took a breath and the liquid went into his lungs causing HydroCarbon poisoning. This little man was sent to Egleston Childrens Hospital were he was in the PICU and on a breathing machine for 5 days I believe. The doctors were not sure if he was even going to live. This is extremely serious guys!!! I called the poison control and they also told me that any oil based liquid air freshener could do this if it somehow got into the lungs. So that means all of the "plug in’s" we love so much, liquid incents, and the wonderful diffusers we have come to enjoy. I cannot begin to understand how something that is meant for a extremely common purpose to be so deadly. If you have anything like this in your home and have some children especially with pets, please get rid of them no family deserves to go threw this. My friend had hers on a 5 1/2 foot dresser when the cat knocked it off. I have attached photos of the "liquid candle" as well as the little boy so you can see how serious this is. Please view the Pictures and pass it on. It’s important that no one else has to go threw this!!! Thank you.
